SoLa Therapy

What is SoLa Therapy?

SoLa Therapy is a unique treatment that works to treat chronic pelvic pain in women. SoLa therapy doesn’t just use a treatment to relieve pain, it actually helps train your body to fight it off in the future, making it a great treatment for use in the long term. While SoLa therapy is fairly new, many patients who have received this treatment are finding themselves pain-free and back to living their normal, everyday lives.

Why Do Women Want SoLa Therapy?

There are several reasons that women may want to try this new, innovative therapy. Women who have suffered from chronic pelvic pain for long periods of time without any relief from other treatments may want to branch out and try something a little different. SoLa Therapy works well for a variety of conditions, such as:

  • Interstitial cystitis
  • Painful intercourse due to endometriosis
  • Pelvic congestion syndrome
  • Pelvic scar tissue
  • Vaginal muscle spasms
  • Uterine fibroids

These are just some of the conditions that SoLa Therapy has been known to help treat. Talk to your pelvic pain doctor to find out if you may be a good candidate for SoLa.

How SoLa Therapy Is Performed

With a wide variety of treatments available to help treat chronic pelvic pain patients, it is common to wonder why SoLa Therapy stands out. SoLa is a special treatment that is done through the use of a PBM (Photobiomodulation) laser.

SoLa Therapy is a safe and gentle procedure. Once you arrive at the doctor’s office, the procedure will be explained to you. Next, the doctor will begin the procedure, which involves applying a PBM laser wand internally on your pelvic muscles. While you are having the procedure, you will not feel pain, but many patients feel a warming sensation. This is normal, and is an effect of the laser used to treat the pain. You may even feel a serious reduction in the amount of pelvic pain you are experiencing during your treatment. SoLa Therapy treatments will only take a few minutes per session, and should be scheduled at least once per week for best results.

After your treatment, you are able to return to your normal daily activities as usual, with no interruptions. A bit of discomfort for a few hours after the treatment is normal.

Is Anesthesia Needed for SoLa Therapy?

Since SoLa Therapy is a pain-free laser therapy, anesthesia is not needed. The overall experience of SoLa therapy tends to be relaxing and most patients feel a general warming in the area that the laser is applied, but no pain.

Recovery and What to Expect After SoLa Therapy

SoLa Therapy is a laser therapy that requires little to no downtime. As soon as the procedure is completed, you are able to go about your daily routine. Some patients report feeling a minor discomfort after the procedure, due to tenderness in your pelvic muscles. If the pain does not go away within a few hours, you should notify the doctor.

SoLa is a laser treatment that works best if performed on a regular, scheduled basis. While you may feel relief from one treatment, it is best to follow a set schedule provided by the doctor, which may include treatment once per week.

Risks of SoLa Therapy

Since SoLa Therapy is not an invasive treatment, the risks are very low. Mild discomfort is a common side effect of the treatment, but this resolves with further treatments and is usually due to the tenderness of the pelvic muscles. SoLa Therapy has not been evaluated for use in pregnant women, so it is important that you are not pregnant if you are planning on undergoing SoLa therapy.
